Situated off the Sonoma Coast in Northern California, the town of Bodega Bay is the perfect spot to satisfy anyone with a craving for seafood.
The restaurants within the area are known for serving up fresh dishes that are caught by local fishermen daily, then brought to the docks of the Bodega Bay Harbor for sale.
And while restaurants such as Spud Point Crab Company and Tides Wharf Reataurant are the popular food destinations in the area, there are no bad spots to choose from as each restaurant can hold their own weight by adding their individual flair to Bodega Bay cuisine.
The town of Bodega Bay has been one of my favorite places to visit for years, thanks in large part to the classical Alfred Hitchcock thriller “The Birds” which was filmed in the area; and just recently I spent a day there with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday.
We spent part of the day navigating down the Pacific Coast Highway 1 section of Bodega Bay, and started our journey at North Salmon Creek Beach.
After a nice, relaxing morning staring out into the Pacific Ocean, we began our afternoon by driving three minutes south from the beach on Highway 1 and made a quick stop at The Children’s Bell Tower for a moment of reflection.
If you are ever in Bodega Bay, I recommend visiting this site; it tells a sad story with a very positive outcome that everyone should hear about.
After our second stop along Highway 1, we wanted to grab a bite to eat before heading home, and our final stop took us another three-minute drive south to the Birds Cafe.

If you are looking for affordable dining, then look no further; as the Birds Cafe offers clam chowder, fish and chips, fish tacos, prawns, beer and wine that is budget-friendly.
The location is also a positive when dining here, as the restaurant overlooks the Bodega Bay Harbor.

The Birds Cafe is not only a restaurant but also has a souvenir gift shop along with a coffee shop on the premesis.
There is no inside seating, but plenty of patio area seats outside to enjoy your meal and the view of the Harbor.
The two of us were in the mood for fish and chips, so we went with that. While waiting for our lunch, my girlfriend kept it simple by sipping on a Shirley Temple; and I went with the local beer Bodega Bay IPA.

The restaurant was a little busy when we got there, but it was well worth the wait when I received our food.

It only took one bite of the fish to know it was the real deal; the batter was very crispy and fried to perfection. Meanwhile, the fish was very tender to bite into and offered freshness from start-to-finish.
The French fries were also fried just right and had a very homemade taste to them.
The portions offered at the Birds Cafe are a bargain that is well worth it because you eat more but spend less; you just can’t beat that!
The staff is always friendly and know how to make customers feel right at home with their positive vibes.
The Birds Cafe is located at 1407 Highway 1, Bodega Bay, California 94923; and is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
