The Brutal Battle with Diverticulitis

Have you ever had surgery? What for?

I had two surgeries back in 2017 that were all related to diverticulitis.

They removed part of my intestines during the first surgery; and as a result, I had to temporarily wear a colostomy bag.

The first month with the bag was a difficult adjustment for me, and there were days of depression I struggled with.

But each day, I slowly regained my confidence again; knowing this was only a temporary situation and eventually be able to move on with my life.

My second and final surgery occurred almost six months after the first one, and would be a reversal surgery to reconnect my intestines.

I had to miss another month of work and build up my strength again; but I think I knew what to expect after that first surgery, so the second journey back to 100% was a bit easier.

This is a battle I hope to never have to fight again; and today I do my best to take the necessary precautions to lower the chances of diverticulitis wrecking havoc on my life once again.

If you have experienced diverticulitis and are reading this, trust me when I say I know your struggles; you are not alone.

My husband has that. It’s not fun for him. You have my sympathies.
