Today I broke away from my usual lunch routine, and tried something new from Q’s Halal food truck which came to my job this afternoon.
The Mediterranean restaurant is based out of Fairfield, California; and specializes in halal (Arabic for “permissible”) comfort food.
One of their best dishes they serve consists of Chicken Tikka Masala (or CTM); a South Asian curry dish consisting of roasted marinated chicken chunks in a spiced sauce.
The dish itself was inspired by cooks from India living in Great Britain, and is considered one of the country’s national delicacies.
Besides offering CTM dishes such as over rice and as a burrito, Q’s Halal also offers vegetable options like Chana Masala or Veggie Samosas.
But the CTM Fries were calling my name, and I went with that for lunch.
This was my first trying halal cuisine, and I didn’t know what to expect; but opening up my tray and seeing a larger serving of waffle fries covered in sauce and spices was a good first impression for me.

Smothered over a bed of crispy, seasoned waffle fries were organic CTM, organic black beans, cheese, onions, and cilantro; and you have the option to go spicy or non-spicy… or medium spicy like I requested.
I do have some tolerance to spicy dishes, and I would have to say it wouldn’t set off any alarms to anyone who may be sensitive to spicy food.
There was a nice balance of savory and sweet in every bite; and each bite of chicken was tender and juicy.
But while the chicken was delicious, I only tallied six bites of chicken in my tray; leaving me wanting a little more portion to be desired.
Overall, I have to say I enjoyed my very first halal cuisine experience and would recommend anyone to check out Q’s Halal if you’re in the Fairfield area.
