The San Francisco 49ers (3-0) kicked off their home opener Thursday night by defeating the New York Giants (1-2) 30-12; making this their 13th straight regular season win dating back to last year.

Although the Giants put up a resilient effort despite missing starting running back Saquon Barkley (ankle injury) and a few other starters, the 49ers proved to be too much and dominated in just about every statistical category.

Here are my thoughts via YouTube video about the 49ers victory.

Other thoughts about the game…

– As much as I love seeing 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey put in work on the field, I was beginning to wonder after the first two previous games why running back Elijah Mitchell hadn’t been featured as much in the offense.

That was not the case tonight, as Mitchell carried the ball 11 times for for 42 yards.

The 49ers need to be cautious not to overwork McCaffrey; so I was glad to see Mitchell (and even Jordan Mason) giving the former a breather.

– 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns; 215 of those were yards after the catch (YAC) by the likes of wide receiver Deebo Samuel and Tighe end George Kittle who fought for every yard possible.

By the way, those 215 YACs…were more yards than the Giants offense gained all night (150).

– Speaking of Kittle, he was quiet the first two games but was a key factor in the 49ers offense with seven receptions for 90 yards.

With wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk out with a shoulder injury, this opened up an opportunity for Kittle to compliment Samuel in the passing game; and it went pretty well.

– The 49ers have scored exactly 30 points in all three of their games.

And to keep the consistency train going, rookie kicker Jake Moody made all three field goals and three extra points for a third consecutive week; not a bad way to start your career.

– McCaffrey didn’t rush for over 100 yards tonight, but he did have 119 total yards (85 rushing and 34 receiving).

– Brock Purdy is now 8-0 in regular season games and continues doing the right things running Shanahan’s offense.

He almost threw a couple near-interceptions and fumbled a snap as well, but was able to settle down in the second quarter and let the game come to him.

Purdy may be limited in some ways physically, but he doesn’t necessarily need the skill sets of a Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen to eyn Shanahan’s system; and so far it’s a great fit.

– The 49ers next contest will again be a home game on Sunday, October 1st (1:25 p.m. Pacific Time) against the Arizona Cardinals (0-2).

The Cardinals will look to grab their first win of the season this coming Sunday, but that will be a tall task to order as they will host a dangerous Dallas Cowboys (2-0) squad.
