After defeating the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday with a breeze, the San Francisco 49ers knew they were going to be in a dogfight Week 6 on the road against the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns, who some say have a Super Bowl-caliber defense, made life hard for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and the offense throughout the day; and took advantage of San Francisco having to play without both running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

But despite the shortcomings of the offense today, the 49ers were still in a position to steal a victory on the road; however, rookie kicker Jake Moody’s two missed field goals (including the potential game winner with nine seconds left in the game) would prove to be the difference in a stunning 19-17 loss to the Browns.

Here were my initial thoughts via my BigThizzle75 YouTube account following the game…

Other observations of the game…

– The Browns outgained the 49ers 334 yards to 215; while also winning the yards per play average margin 4.8 to 3.9.

– The game wasn’t just a physical contest, but a sloppy one as well which featured 25 total penalties. Both teams combined assessed a total of 224 penalty yards.

– Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper led all receivers with four catches for 108 yards; and 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk led the team with 76 yards in four receptions.

– The 49ers winning streak during the regular season ends at 15 games with today’s loss to the Browns. The streak started last season during Week 8 against the Los Angeles Rams.

– Speaking of streaks coming to an end, Brock Purdy suffered his first regular season loss as a starting quarterback in the NFL. He had previously won his first 10 regular season starts dating back to Week 13 last season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

– Running back Christian McCaffrey left the game in the second half with an oblique injury and did not return. Although he only tallied 52 total yards on the day, McCaffrey did find the end zone once again on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Purdy.

– Newly acquired defensive end Randy Gregory made his presence felt by having three tackles and a sack in his first game as a 49er.

His addition to an already stacked 49ers defensive front should greatly benefit the pass rush.

– 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was inactive dealing with a hamstring injury. Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles played in Greenlaw’s place and recorded three tackles.

– The last time the 49ers won a game in Cleveland was November 11, 1984; a 41-7 drubbing at the hands of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and the eventual Super Bowl XIX champion 49ers.

– The 49ers will now travel to Minnesota for a Week 7 Monday Night showdown with the Vikings, who are coming off a 19-13 victory over the Chicago Bears.

After a subpar performance against the Browns, the 49ers offense hopes to shake it off and get back on track against the Vikings.
